As an undergraduate fine art major, I learned the craft of bookmaking by hand. In grad school, I worked on a literary journal and learned the art of desktop publishing and typesetting. Since then, I've worked with multiple small presses including Black Ocean and Tinderbox Editions to design interior layouts and covers and provide art direction, as well as to refine house styles and guidelines for consistency and aesthetic.

Are you a publisher who'd like to design your own books, but need help getting started?
You have a limited budget and don't mind working with InDesign, but you don't know much about typography or creating house guidelines. You'd like assistance getting started, and could maintain a style once it was established.
The House Starter Package establishes a house style guide (which you can reference in a beautiful PDF with everything included to maintain consistent styles with future publications), an InDesign book template you can uses to start your project with all of your styles pre-loaded, and one-one-one training to help you implement your new styles going forward. We'll spend time going over your press values, aesthetic, and goals so that your design style matches your brand and is in line with those goals and values.
